HISTORY

At the early foundation of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, there were many groups on the campus that a student could join which was probably due to the discovery of freedom. Among these were Christian groups, which found themselves under two major bodies - the Protestant church and Catholics. The Protestant church encompassed all Christians regardless their denominations from home.

At the time, the mother Anglican churches had groups called Anglican Youth Fellowships (AYF). In 1974, a suggestion emerged and a group of students of the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), who were Anglicans, came together to start the Anglican Youth Fellowship on Great Ife campus. Among these were Reverend Adebiye (now Bishop Adebiyi), Reverend Odumuyiwa, Mr. Remi Olowoloba, Reverend Oduwole, and other students among who were Reverends. Also with them were Sister Omokoda and Reverend Olajide - Retired Bishop of Ibadan diocese (the then Fajuyi Hall warden). All numbering about thirty brethren. Initial meetings commenced at the Fajuyi hall warden's office that is now the Fellowship secretariat. Later held at Agric Foyer. The inauguration was later held at AUDITORIUM 1, officiated by Late Bishop Falope.

The reason is to bring many to Christ and also to prevent Anglican students from going astray.

Since then, God has been using the fellowship for great exploits - the fellowship that calls her members "Citizens of the City of God Almighty." She ceaselessly grows spiritually and numerically.

In December 1996, the name was changed to Anglican Students' Fellowship (ASF), here in 0.A.U. and there was a national inauguration in 1999 whereby all A.Y.F. in all higher institutions in Nigeria changed names to ASF. Later, in April 2002, the fellowship was honoured to be part of the Synod meeting of Ife Diocese being represented by four delegates. Currently, it is the Chapter Secretariat and was the ASF National Secretariat in 2002.
